Five Places to Go This Year
If ever there was a year to make elaborate travel plans, 2025 feels like the one. Whether you want to go somewhere big this year or start planning something big for 2026, now is the time. You can go anywhere, do anything. And we’ve got five suggestions to get you started.
These aren’t off beaten path, these are some of the great tourism destinations of our time. But they might be the kind of places that make you think, “Someday I’ll get there. After I go to Italy, after I go to Paris, after we relax on a beach in Cancun.”
Don’t wait until after, plan it now.
ONE: Egypt
History and stunning sites abound in Egypt. The Citadel of Saladin and the Hanging Church in Cairo, and the pyramids at Giza. Visit the Valley of the Kings. Take a cruise on the Nile River. This is a lifetime trip, something that will stay wuth you always.
If you are thinking about Egypt, consider visiting as a part of a guided small group or private tour so that you get the best of what the country has to offer without worrying how you’ll get from place to place.
TWO: British Columbia
Mountains, rainforest (yes, rainforest in Canada!), coastal towns, wine tasting, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and big city fun are all things that you can experience during a trip to British Columbia on the west coast of Canada. From nightlife in Vancouver to stunning architecture in Victoria to skiing in Whistler and bear watching zodiac tours, Western Canada offers a diverse array of things to do, whether you want nature or city or both.
Three: Crete
Crete is often overshadowed by more famous islands in Greece - Mykonos, Santorini - but it is an incredible destination in its own right.
The largest of the Greek Isles, Crete offers all of the archaeological splendor of Athens plus pink sand beaches, gorgeous cafes, stunning resorts and plenty of outdoor activities.
Stay in Chania and book a tour to see Heraklion and Knossos Palace. Our favorite historical tour in Crete can be booked here.
FOUR: Scotland
Castles and food and history and those incredibly cute cows. Hotels that feel like the library at Downton Abbey. This is what Scotland offers and much more. Visit Glasgow and Edinburgh, see the Highlands and the Borders. You can make a perfect 7 day UK adventure out of Scotland alone or combine it with England or Ireland. Scotland is accessible on self driving itineraries and by train.
FIVE: Saint Lucia
Instead of Cancun, instead of the Dominican Republic, consider Saint Lucia.
Saint Lucia is the Caribbean, but elevated. Dramatic landscapes, the towering peaks of the Pitons keeping watch. Fewer, more luxurious resorts that draw smaller crowds of tourists. (1.9 million visitors in 2019 vs the DR’s 10 million). A slower pace, nothing to do but relax and maybe take a hike or an off road tour.
The tourist season here is January to April, making it a perfect spot for post holiday relaxation or a spring honeymoon.
